Building Capacity Across the Nonprofit Sector
Supported by the Strengthening Nonprofits Fund at CFAAC, the Community Impact Speaker Series gave nonprofits and community members access to
practical tools and timely knowledge throughout the year. Gifts to this spendable fund flow directly into the community, making it possible for CFAAC
to bring relevant, high-quality programming to the sector when it is needed most. Together, these currents of programming spanned three broad
themes: grantmaking and fundraising, mental health and community wellness, and donor strategy and charitable giving.

THE LONELINESS EPIDEMIC: STRATEGIES
TO GENTLE OUR JOURNEY
Practical strategies for aligning proposals with
funder priorities were shared to build more
competitive applications.
Marguerite Keane Gibbons, LCSW-C, explored
the Surgeon General’s findings on social isolation
and offered strategies for fostering connection and
resilience. Offered both in person and virtually to
extend access across the community.

This program helped nonprofit leaders strengthen
endowment strategies for long-term sustainability.

FUNDRAISING AND SUSTAINABILITY
COHORT TRAINING
This two-part cohort series on building sustainable
fundraising systems and diversifying revenue
streams, included a follow-up session deepening
skills from the first part of the series.
Co-hosted with Modera Wealth Management, this
session helped donors, families, and advisors align
legacy goals with tax strategy, covering Donor
Advised funds, charitable trusts, qualified charitable
distributions, and federal and Maryland tax changes.

YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID TRAINING
Certified trainer Marguerite Keane Gibbons,
LCSW-C, taught participants to recognize and
respond to mental health challenges in adolescents
ages 12 to 18 using the ALGEE action plan.
YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID FOR
SPANISH-SPEAKING COMMUNITIES
A full-day, Spanish-language course at the Annapolis
Busch Library was led by bilingual certified trainer
Hilary Flores and offered free to the community.
In recognition of National Make-a-Will Month,
CFAAC hosted a free public webinar on estate
planning and recent tax law changes. Estate planning
attorney Christine Hubbard, a founding member of
the Anne Arundel Estate Planning Council, guided
attendees through the essentials of creating or
updating an estate plan, while John Rodenhausen,
then serving as CFAAC’s Director of Gift Planning,
shared how the Community Foundation can support
long-term planning and lasting community impact.
