A Legacy of Leadership
When Mary Spencer stepped into the role of
the Community Foundation of Anne Arundel
County’s President and CEO in August 2018, annual
grantmaking had totaled $2.2 million the prior year.
When she retired in October 2025, that number had
grown to over $9 million, a testament to her vision,
her relationships, and her belief in the power of
community philanthropy.
Under Mary’s leadership, CFAAC deepened its influence,
expanded its reach across the county, and strengthened
its role as a trusted partner to donors and nonprofits.
She leaves behind a foundation with strong leadership,
vision, and financial stability, well-positioned to respond
to the needs of the community she served so well.
Mary also championed inclusivity, working to ensure
that CFAAC’s staff, board, and volunteers reflected the
diversity of the community, and that its grantmaking
followed the ideals of trust-based philanthropy.
We are deeply grateful for Mary’s dedication and wish
her every happiness in retirement. We are confident
the positive impact of her leadership will be felt for
generations to come.
